Statement of AI Usage
Currently, I do not use generative AI algorithms in the production of any content I produce. This includes text, video, image, or audio generation.
The primary reasoning for this is my own personal moral issues with generative AI (genAI), the way in which it is trained, and the impact on the art I produce. I believe that the use of genAI, and the inherent lack of human creativity and intelligence, along with the unethical ways genAI has been trained, compromises the art it touches.
I believe that a core part of art is within the creation of said art, alongside with the finished product. GenAI takes this creative process out of it, in a way I cannot support or agree with in my own work. I understand there is nuance in this topic, but for MY work personally, I WILL NOT use genAI.
For the sake of full transparency, I want to disclose that this has not always been the case. The game jam version of The Source was made in 2022, when image generation was becoming a thing, and the ethical concerns were still not widely known. In this project I used AI images as a reference for some of the character designs in that game. Likewise, in the early days of The Source, I traced over AI generated images for all the character designs, which appeared in the original demo of the game. I also used code generated by an LLM. I am ashamed of this usage, and will not be doing so again. All instances have been removed from the game, replaced by my own work.
