Long time no see. Sorry for a bit of radio silence. The last couple of months have been. . . interesting to say the least.
So after announcing the shelving of The Source, what have I been working on?
The first game I started on was a puzzle platformer game inspired by games like Creaks, Monument Valley 2, and Mind Over Magnet. Queue the screenshots!
While I’m sure I’ll come back to this idea at some point, the game mechanics are way too limited for a full game unfortunately. Luckily, this was really just a prototype, so not much lost.
The second thing I’ve been working on will sound familiar to those who’ve been following my work for a while. A top down game where you’re trying to navigate a dark maze filled to the brim with deadly creatures who would love nothing more than to make you their next meal.
In case you don’t know, this is basically the premise of a game I’ve made called In The Darkness (it’s free on Steam btw). This new project is something I’ve been wanting to make for a while, a kind of spiritual successor to In The Darkness that takes it’s strongest points, and leaves it’s weak points. The biggest issues with In The Darkness were some major performance issues, and conflicting theming. I want to strip those from this new game– Trench.
Trench is meant to be a game where you are exploring a deep sea trench, filled with all sort of thalassophobia-inducing creatures. Unfortunately, this game too is being put on hold for now. There’s some significant performance issues with the way I want to use Unity’s 2D lighting system, which need to be solved before I can really continue with the game. But this is a game that I am certain I will come back to eventually.

So, why am I not fixing the issues with Trench right now? Well, it’s because I’ve started back on The Source! I don’t know why, but this really is an idea that I keep coming back to. Recently while going through some notebooks, I found a monologue I have planned for the end of the game. It’s one of the best things I’ve ever written, and it really is bone-chilling. And I really want to put it out there. So, at least for now, WE’RE BACK BABY!
I’m not going to make concrete promises, but I really want to update more frequently. So, we’ll see how long I can maintain a weekly post schedule. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
